INCORD do not only address the
issue of integrated regional development on an abstract and theoretical
level, but also implements five pilot projects in partnerships between
the "old" and the "new" member states. These pilot projects are
focussing on specific thematic issues relevant for the respective
region and are serving as experimental grounds for the development of
common guidelines and methods.
There are pilot projects on the following issues:
Region of Olomouc (CZ): Conversion of the military airport of Prerov to a partly civil use
The topic of the Olomouc project is an integrated development
concept for the periphery of the Prerov Airport that is used for
military purposes. The concept specifies the needs and impacts of
the regional airbase located in Prerov and wider surroundings on a
regional level. The aim of the project is the conversion of the
military area to a partly civil use.
Region of Ostrava (CZ): Integrated redevelopment of old industrial areas
Leading
industries of the Ostrava region are coal mining, metal industry and
chemistry. The industrial infrastructure has changed in the last ten
years: a high unemployment rate and industrial brownfield sites,
especially in the city of Ostrava, impede the development of the whole
region. However, positive impulses are given by the University of
Ostrava and a number of activities in infrastructure development.
Within the RDC-process, solutions and perspectives for the use of former
industrial areas are discussed and shown.
Region of Malopolska (PL): Integrated redevelopment of old industrial sites
The
main centre of the Malopolska region is the city of Krakow. Main
high-tech industries are developing in the region. Still, investments
are needed for industrial development, so there is a demand for
restructuring and development of old industrial areas. The RDC is
therefore especially focussing on the conversion of industrial areas.
Drawa river region (PL): Integrated tourism development of the Drawa river basin
Drawski
District is situated in the Voivodeship of Zachodniopomorskie, a region
which shows many possibilities for tourism development. In the past,
the Drawa Lake area has been tightly connected with the development of
the economic sectors agriculture and tourism. Therefore, the
development strategy of the region concentrates on tourism
infrastructure and marketing.
Keila river region (EST): Integrated tourism development of the Keila river basin
In
the city of Keila tourism is an important and growing branch of the
economy, especially in the region of Harju County and along the Keila
river. At the moment, the decisions on locations, the investments in
tourist projects as well as the marketing activities are taking place
without an organized and coordinated planning process. In order to
create a network of the existing tourism highlights, especially the
city of Tallinn and the coastal locations, and to develop a harmonized
management strategy, the project initiates a new kind of planning
approach. On the basis of a differentiated evaluation of the present
situation in combination with external expertise the process integrates top-down as well as bottom-up approaches.
