The commune inhabited by nearly 5,000 people is located in the south-eastern part of the Drawsko County covering 237 sq km. The commune offers many historic monuments and attractive sites.
The communal swimming ground on
Dramienko lake offering a hire of aquatic equipment as canoes, boats and pedal
boats is one of most attractive nooks of the commune.
The most interesting antiquities
include:
- The Neo-Gothic St Wojciech
church holding a 17th-century altar from 1890 in Wierzchowo.
- The St Anthony of Padova's
church in Osiek Drawski. It was built in 1686, of framework construction, with
a tower from 1891, a Baroque bell from 1660.
- The St Stanisław's church in Żabinek. Built on
a plan of a hexagon with buttresses in 1799. Located in the village centre.
- Remembrance places commemorating
battles of the Pomeranian Operation of the 1st Polish Army during the Second
World War in: Garbowo, Nowe Laski, Osiek, Borujsko, Wierzchowo, Będlino, Sośnica, Świerczyna, Żabin, Wielboki
(12 memorial plaques and monuments).
- Evangelical cemeteries in twelve
centres of the Wierzchowo Commune.
In the area of Sośnica Forestry
there is a reserve of the beech stand. Moreover, monuments of nature two, three
or even five centuries old are found within Świerczyna Forest District.
In the Commune there area the Smolne Mountains with the tallest hill of
Drawskie Lake District, Mount Racza of 211 m above sea level.
