Keila - a small town with long history and opened to the future
The city of Keila is situated in the northern part of Estonia. It is a small
town with long history and opened to the future.
The first written notice about Keila was in 1241. The first time obtained
the status of town in 1938. The area is 10.46 km2 and the number of
population is 10 000 inhabitants, 60% of them are in the working age.
Administration of the town:
- Keila Town Council - the 17-member legislative body of a local government elected by the residents of the town
- Keila Town Government - the executive body formed by the Town Council
Education:
- 2 upper secondary schools (gymnasiums);
- 2 primary schools, one of them – SOS Herman Gmeiner School;
- a music school;
- 3 kindergartens;
- SOS-Children´s Village (situated in a suburb of Keila)
Sports:
- 18 sport clubs with ca 1000 members
- 2 sport halls
- Keila Health Centre with 8x25 m swimming pool; a hall for sport games; body building and aerobics facilities.

- To create verstaile opportunities to the citizens of Keila for
self-developmnet and recreational activities, to quarantee a socially
secure and safe environment;
- To form Keila into an open town that values and supports collaboration and enterprise.
