An institution experienced in European cooperation.
The
German Association for Housing, Urban and Spatial Development
(Deutscher Verband für Wohnungswesen, Städtebau und Raumordnung e.V.)
is an independent, nonpartisan association, founded in 1946. As a
platform for architects, urban planners, representatives of housing
industry, credit institutes as well as representatives of public
authorities and enterprises, its main objective is to facilitate the
cross-sectoral dialogue of public authorities and private institutions
and to promote further exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The
association is dealing with principle questions and perspectives of
housing, urban and spatial development. A vast range of activities are
offered to the members, among others:
- conferences,
- thematic working groups,
- commissions with external experts,
- networks with other associations and research institutes in Germany and other European countries,
- information on current developments.
The representative office in Brussels, opened
in 2001, is mainly engaged with the management of the German-Austrian
URBAN-Network. This network aims to support the twelve German and two
Austrian cities and towns which are participating in the EU Community
Initiative URBAN. It assists in implementing their urban regeneration
plans for disadvantaged areas and in developing integrated approaches
for resolving similar problems and organises an intensive exchange of
experience. Besides, the representative office coordinates and assists
INTERREG projects and informs the members of the association about the
current European Policy in the field of urban and regional development.
